A standard eleven inch ICF wall exhibits an insulation rating more than double that of a framed wall. Conventional concrete walls have little measurable R-value. ICF walls have no thermal bridging, such as exposed concrete or wooden studs. They are airtight and leave no allowance for drafts or other such invasions. The walls are typically so uniform that they are waterproof even before exterior damp-proofing is applied, combating basement flooding and other elements from entering the home. Due to the nature of the curing process, the concrete in an ICF wall will cure 25% stronger than traditional methods, with little to no cracking. This comes as a result of the airtight, waterproof forms allowing the concrete to cure to completion versus being stripped the next day. Another contributing factor is the possible inclusion of rebar reinforcement within the wall, both vertically and horizontally, which allows for superior strength and durability. All rebar stays perfectly in place with no tying, thanks to the design of slots in the webbing.
